Clove trees are original from Indonesia. The dried flower buds of clove are extensively used as spice. The buds, leaves and stems are used for the extractions of clove's oil. Both the oil and the flower buds have been valued as a herbal medicine for a long time. The oil contains eugenol, a strong anesthetic and antiseptic substance. Cloves are also well known for their antispasmodic and stimulative properties.  It is antibacterial, anti-viral, anti-microbial. anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal.

Clove oil is great for the mouth overall.  It kills bacteria that cause bad breath, has a numbing effect on pain receptors and can help to remineralize teeth.  Clove can help reduce the inflammation of swollen gums as well.
