Lemongrass essential oil is extracted through steam distillation from the leaves of Cymbopogon Flexuosus which is a tropical grass grown widely throughout southeast Asia.   

Lemongrass is used as a topical antiseptic and antifungal agent.  It is thought to be a warming remedy for aching muscles and joints.  Lemongrass essential oil's aroma is stimulating and invigorating, and can be used for sluggish circulation and low energy.  It has antiseptic properties and can be used in facial toners as its astringent properties help fight acne and greasy skin. An excellent anti-depressant, lemongrass tones and fortifies the nervous system and can be used in the bath for soothing muscles, nerves and pain. Lemongrass shares similar properties with citronella and has a great reputation for keeping insects away.

Traditional Indian medicine has used Lemongrass Essential Oil to treat infectious illness and fever.  It is capable of bring down very high fevers.  It boosts self esteem, confidence, hope and mental strength while uplifting spirits and fighting depression.  Lemongrass is both antimicrobial and antibacterial and is known to be effective in inhibiting bacterial infections in the colon, stomach, urinary tracts, wounds, respiratory system, and other organ systems.  It is also helpful at curing diseases resulting from bacterial or microbial infections such as typhoid, food poisoning, skin diseases, body odor, and malaria (caused by protozoan).  Being an antiseptic it is good for internal and external wounds.
